The term
ebony covers several species of the generic group of Diospyros.
The wood is always heavy. Most ebony species are rose-grey, only some of
them have conspicuous stripes like makassar ebony, or are deeply black
like african ebony. They are resident in tropical or subtropical forests.
The sapwood of makassar ebony is broad an rose-grey. The heartwood is
black, intermittend from brown stripes. |
