Mammoth ivory

Up to the last ice age the mammoths lived in Eurasia and the cold steppes of North America. The animals became large to 3m (shoulder height) and had huge convoluted tusks. These tusks are up to 2m long and have a weight till 100kg. The mammoth ivory helds itself until today. Since the world-wide ivory trade embargo of 1989 mammoth ivory is used as ivory substitude. Unfortunately mammoth ivory isn't always kept well, this is why fissures in the tusks are not rarely. Through those fissures sometimes a brown-green colour penetrates into the interior material, a delightful colouring appears. Our mammoth ivory is from Yakutia (in Siberia).

Attention! At present an export stop exists for mammoth ivory. Therefore the market prices rise. The still existing pieces are on sale.
